The Argument Hour, with Seth and T.C.

The Argument Hour is a podcast I've started doing at irregular intervals with designer and Twitter personality T.C. Petty III, in which we hash out some design concept that we disagree about. The podcast airs on the On Board Games feed, but that's inconvenient for some people who don't subscribe to On Board Games, or are only interested in The Argument Hour. So here's a list of Argument Hour episodes -- I'll try and remember to update this whenever a new one comes out:

Episode 1 "The Argument Hour" dealt with the "Alpha Player Problem" (whether it even exists), and included a brief review of Kingdomino.

Episode 2 "Remix" was all about honing/returning to the well/designers revisiting ideas. The review that time was The Voyages of Marco Polo.

Episode 3 "Loss Aversion" was about a range of topics that were at least related to, if not actually, the idea that people tend to feel the feeling of losing something more intensely than the feeling of gaining something of the same value (it's bad to lose a $5 bill, and it's good to find one, but people tend to think the amount of bad in the first case is larger than the amount of good in the second case).

Episode 4 "Cognitive Load" dealt with the difference between "compliance cognition" (brainpower spent following arbitrary rules or hoop-jumping required to legally play a game) and "decision cognition" (brainpower spent on the strategic or tactical play of the game). The topic was sparked by this blog post from Jeff Warrender about excessive cognitive load.
